Ten Things I Love About October

93570b416df35c4b3868275f63677af5Here are 10 Things I Love About October!
IMG_56031) Cooler Weather – After sweating through the wretchedly hot summer, it is nice to go outside and not have to change after only being out there for a few minutes. Its time to put away the shorts, tanks, swim suits and sandals, to bust out scarves, boots, jeans, and sweaters. It’s the only time of year that I like to go outside. HA

IMG_57452) Halloween – I love Halloween. I love decorating my house with pumpkins, bats, skulls and more. I love all the mini candies and different treats that come out. I love picking out our costumes for our friends Halloween party. I love handing out candy to the Trick-or-Treaters and seeing their costumes. I am super excited for this year since this is Colton’s first big holiday! I can’t wait to get him all dressed up!

IMG_55733) Leaves – Oh, the leaves! I loved watching the trees change colors in Michigan; it is just beautiful. The colors are amazing and vibrant. I loved ranking the leaves into a big pile once they fell off the trees and jumping in them! The best!

11729686-large4) ABC Family 13 Nights of Halloween – Who doesn’t love this?? Children and adults can watch all different types of movies and shows. Here are just a few from this year : Monsters, inc., Addams Family, Twilight, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Pretty Little Liars Halloween Episode, Teen Witch, and so much more!!

Hocus5) Hocus Pocus – Now this def shows during 13 Nights of Halloween but I feel like this needs a whole separate call out!! This is a October classic and must be watched at least 3 times throughout the month. Everything about this movie screams Halloween. The Sanderson Sisters, Binks, Dani, Allison, Max, the Songs, and dancing what more can you ask for in a movie.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA6) Apple Orchards – My favorite thing in the world is going to the apple orchards. They are so pretty in the fall with all the colors, they smell great because of all the apples, and they have tons of stuff to do there. OH how I can’t wait to go next week when we are in Michigan!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA7) Wagon/Hay Rides – Who doesn’t love going on wagon/hay rides? It just screams October. There is nothing better than going on a wagon/hay ride to the pumpkin patch at the apple orchard! Sounds like music to my ears.

IMG_56158) Pumpkin Patches – Speaking of pumpkin patches, I just love going to them! You get to hunt around and find the perfect pumpkin to take home. Each pumpkin is different shaped and size and everyone loves finding their pumpkin. I can’t wait to take Colton to pick out his pumpkin when he is older!

IMG_55389) Apple Cider – I could drink apple cider all the time! It is sooo good but there is just something about drinking apple cider in October at the apple orchards. Apple cider cold or hot is great but the best kind of apple cider is an apple cider slushie. Yummmm makes me just thirsty thinking about it.

apple cider donuts10) Doughnuts – Oh man the doughnuts. There is just nothing like getting a hot fresh donut from the apple orchard. The smell, the cinnamon, the sugar, the taste, the texture. Yum just so good!!! If you have never had the pleasure of having an apple cider doughnut, I am sorry! You must find away to get some!

That’s it! My favorite things about October, I am just sad that it is almost over!!

Pinterest Project Tuesdays – Halloween Chevron Bat Wreath

I love decorating for holidays and I was all about Halloween this year since this is Colton’s first big holiday and plus I had a lot more time to decorate since I am home!! I loved the wreath I made last year, My Boo Wreath, but it only lasted for October 2012. The black burlap really faded so I had to throw it away even though I loved it.

IMG_3970So when I started decorating this year, I knew I had to make a new Halloween Wreath. I turned to Pinterest and found tons of ideas. It was hard to choice the one I was going to make this year but I was really drawn to the Halloween Chevron Bat Wreath, which is this weeks project! Here is the pin that inspired me.

photo-21This pin takes you to Tater Tots and Jello, which is a great blog with tons of DIY crafts and decorating ideas. I love looking at this website. I pretty much followed what she did to make my wreath. I however, do not use a cutting machine, I used a punch to make my bats.

Here is what I did.

What you will need:

  • Foam Wreath
  • Orange Chevron (I got a yard and had some left over)
  • Black Chevron
  • Hot Glue
  • Scissors
  • Black Glitter Cardstock
  • Bat Punch
  • Black Bakers Twine

IMG_3909The first thing you do is cut your orange chevron into 3 inch strips.

IMG_3918 IMG_3920 IMG_3921Then you are going to start covering your wreath. Hot glue and end down and start wrapping until covered.

IMG_3924 IMG_3926 IMG_3928 IMG_3927 IMG_3931Then punch out your bats, I used glitter paper because it was easier than cutting out the bats on black paper and then adding glitter.

IMG_3933 IMG_3935 IMG_3938 Then wrap the wreath with the bakers twine. Make sure you pull it very tight and hot glue it down.

IMG_3940 IMG_3941 IMG_3943Then hot glue your bats on.

IMG_3946 IMG_3948 IMG_3950 IMG_3954Finally add your hanger using the black chevron.

IMG_3956Hang on your door and stand back to enjoy your work!!

IMG_3960 IMG_3965 IMG_3967I loved how it turned out!! It was super easy to make and makes me happy when I see my porch!!

I hope you give it a try and spruce up your porch with a touch of Halloween!

Until next time!

2 and 3 Month Essentials

Thank goodness for certain products, right? There were def a few that we really depended on for Colton the last couple of months. They made life easier and they brought so much enjoyment to little man! Here is what worked for us, others might have other essentials but these were ours!

2 & 3 Month Essentials

Fisher-Price My Little SnugaBunny Cradle ‘n Swing – Colton did not like his swing at first but all of sudden at two months he LOVED it!! He takes great naps in there and loves looking at the birdies and the mirror. Def a must have!!

Aden + Anais Security Blankets – Little man loved his swaddle blankets so much that I bought a back of the security blankets and he loves them! He has to have it to go to sleep and loves rubbing his face with it. He likes playing peek-a-boo with it too! It comes in many different designs!

Oball Rattle – These are great for the little hands!! Colton has no problem gripping on to these and loves the little rattle. He tries putting the whole thing in his mouth! HA Must have!!

Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies & Lights Deluxe Gym – This thing is GREAT!! It plays music, has lights that flash, and toys!! Colton loves it. Also you can use it for tummy time, we would be lost with out this. We use it daily multiple times!

Vulli Sophie the Giraffe Teether – He likes to hold on tho Sophie He just started trying to but it in his mouth but he more likes to hold on to it. He also likes when you squeak it! Must have!

Fisher-Price My Liuttle SnugaMonkey Monkey & Bananas – Colton loves this rattle! He loves to eat it and hold on to it. It was the first toy he was drawn too.

Snuza Hero Baby Monitor – Now this is a pricey item but it gives me a peace of mind when we go to bed for the night. This clips on the babies diaper and monitors babies movement/breathing. If the baby stops moving it vibrates to wake the baby a little if they still don’t move an alarm will go off. SIDS is scary to even think about and this just gives us a little peace of mind.

Bumbo Floor Seat and Tray – LOVE this! Colton loves sitting in here and playing with his toys. It also helps him with learning how to sit up. All Colton wants to do is sit and stand!

Johnson’s Hand and Face Wipes – These are great to wipe up spit up, to clean his hands and face, and just a quick face clean in the morning. I keep them on his changing table and I take them with me in his diaper bag! Love them!

4Moms Cleanwater Infant Bath Tub – Hand down my favorite product!! Colton loves bath time and this bath tub has been a knee saver! It goes over the kitchen sink which means you don’t have to bend down trying to give your little one a bath in the big bath tub. It also has a thermometer to make sure that the water isn’t too cold or too hot. It has clean water reservoir as well and you can circulate the dirty water with clean water! Its great!!

Well that’s it!! I hope these items work for you as well!! If I had to do it all over again these would be the items I would register for!

Until next time!

Pinterest Project Tuesdays: Wood Name Banner

Happy October everyone!! I can’t believe how fast this year is going! The holiday season is upon us and I for one am SUPER excited!! Let the festivities begin!!

IMG_3693ANYWAYS! This weeks project was super easy to do! We had Colton’s three month pictures a couple of weekends ago and of course I was looking for picture ideas on Pinterest. I found one that I just loved and I knew for sure we had to do that! The picture incorporated a wood name banner and I knew I just had to make that! Here is the pin that inspired me.

photo-20I just loved how this picture came out and I knew for sure that I could make a banner like that for our pictures. I didn’t click on this pin so I am not sure where it takes you. I am pretty sure it takes you to the photographers page. Without further ado, here is what I did for my banner.

What you will need:

  • Hot Glue
  • Twine (I used jute)
  • Wood Letters
  • Scissors

IMG_3672First thing you do is lay out your letters to get the correct spacing.

IMG_3676Then hot glue the letters to the twine

IMG_3683 IMG_3685Then cut the other end of the twine

IMG_3693Super easy right?? I mean it took 5 minutes or less. Here is a sneak peek at Colton’s three month pictures!
