The last week was a rough one. We picked up one of our doggies yesterday from the hospital after she had to have neck/spine surgery and today, I had to have the 3 hour Glucose Test. More to come about that all on a later post. Today is about the cute treats that I made for St. Patrick’s Day! On Friday of last week, I brought in a couple of treats at work to celebrate St. Patty’s Day!
Who doesn’t love cupcakes and candy?? I mean I know I do (lets hope I pass that glucose test! HA) so I thought these would be the best treats to bring to spread some joy! Here are the pins that inspired me for this weeks projects.
The first pin is from I Heart Naptime. I love this blog! She has tons of craft ideas and recipes for all holidays. I look at her site everyday! The second pin is from Cupcakes Take the Cake. Another great blog with TONS for cupcake recipes. I really didn’t follow the recipe for this one, I more went with the concept.
Here is what I did for the Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow Jars!
What you will need:
- Bakers Twine in Green
- Labels ( I used the free download from I Heart Naptime)
- Hole Punch
- Plastic Jars (I got mine at Michael’s but they also sell them at Hobby Lobby)
The first thing I did was cut out all of the labels. Again, I used the label from I heart Naptime, it was super cute and a free printable so why not!
Then I hole punched each one.
After that, I sorted out the Skittles by color.
Then I started filling the Jars. I started with the Rolos first. I only used 4 at the bottom of each.
Then I moved to the Skittles starting with Red first then Orange, Yellow, Green and last the Purple.
Once filled, put the cap on and tie on your label with the Bakers Twine.
Then your done! They are super cute and super easy to make. The hardest part is separating the Skittles. I was super excited to pass these out to everyone!
NOW on to the cupcakes. Here is what I did for my Lucky Charm Cupcakes.
Here is what you will need:
- Boxes Yellow Cake Mix
- Vegetable Oil
- Cupcake Liners
- Green Colorbursts (optional)
First thing I did was prepare the cupcake batter following the directions on the box.
Then I added my Green Colorburst. I found these at Michael’s and thought they were perfect for these cupcakes. I didn’t want to dye the cupcakes green so I these were just enough for that green pop!
Then I scooped the batter into the cupcake liners and put them in the oven.
Remove and let cool.
While the cupcakes were cooling, I made my frosting, Vanilla Buttercream. Here is what I did.
What you will need:
- 2 Sticks of Unsalted Butter, Softened
- 3 Tablespoons of Milk
- 3 Cups of Powdered Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon of Vanilla
- 1/4 Teaspoon of Salt
First thing you want to do is cream your butter. Add butter to your mixer using the paddle attachment, cream butter until smooth and fluffy.
Turn mixer off and add in 3 Cups of Powdered Sugar. Turn mixer on low and incorporate the sugar into the butter.
Once mixed together, add in your Milk, Vanilla and Salt and mix well. If the frosting is too thick add more milk and if too thin add more sugar.
Now its time to frost and decorate! Here is what I did!
Here is what you need:
- Lucky Charms
- Green Sprinkles
First thing is to frost the cupcake.
Then sprinkle on some Green Sprinkles
Then press in some Lucky Charms. Make sure each cupcake has a few marshmallows.
Then your done! They came out great and everyone seemed to love them!
I had a blast making all these treats and I can’t wait until next year to do them again!
I hope you give them a try or keep them in mind for the next St. Patty’s Day!
Until next time!
