Pinterest Project Tuesday – Halloween “Countdown to Candy” Calendar

I am in full Halloween decorating mode at the house! It is the first holiday at our new house so I might be going a little crazy… HA! Keeping with the Halloween theme, this week I made a Halloween “Countdown to Candy” Calendar.

It was really easy to make and it does take some time with all the Mod Podge but well worth it!!

Here is the pin that inspired me. I know the pin does not show the calendar, but when you click on the pin it takes you to this blog The Happy Scraps. She lists what she made and where she found the idea. I plan on making the pumpkins you see but I first wanted to make the calendar she had listed. The calendar idea came from the blog Just Another Hang Up. I did things a little different but for the most part it was the same!

Here is what I did!

Items you will need:

  • Mod Podge
  • Distress Ink
  • Paper Cutter
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Black Spray Paint
  • Vinyl Letters
  • Scrapbooking Paper (I used 9 different kinds)
  • Sandpaper
  • Wood Blocks (I will explain sizing below)

First thing you need to do is get the wood. I went to Home Depot and got a 4x4x7 piece of wood and had them cut it into 10 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 cubes and 5 7 x 3/12 rectangles. It is enough sets to make 5 calendars. So I will be using those for future projects!

Next, you want to sand down the corners and any other rough spots.

Then you off to spray paint! Spray paint all sides until well covered and let dry.

While those are drying, you can cut your scrapbook paper down to size. I cut the pieces for the numbers down to 3 x 3 and the one piece for the rectangle wood to 3 x 6 3/4.

Then you want to distress the sides with the distressing ink.

Then you number the cubes! The first cube has 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The second cube has 0, 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8. The 6 becomes the number 9 when you need it. Also, put your stickers on the rectangle piece that says “countdown to candy”.

Once your wood pieces are dry, you want to start Mod Podging your paper down. This does take ALOT of Mod Podge but its well worth it!

Once the Mod Podge dries you are done!!

Super cute and super easy!!! If you have kids, this is a great to have around the house! Everyone is counting down the day to Trick Treating and all the candy!!

I hope you give it a try!!

Until next time!
