OKAY! Some of you may be asking “What is Geocaching?” I was too when I heard about it the first time! So what is Geocaching? It is a Worldwide Scavenger Hunt!! How neat is that, right??
I love Scavenger Hunts! I have competed in Scavenger Hunt Runs and even created one for Brent on our First Anniversary!
Geocaching is a worldwide GPS hunt for containers called Caches. Inside the Caches is a log book to log your find. The Caches range in size from really small to large. Some also have items that have a tracking number on them called Trackables where you move them from Cache to Cache. There are many different kinds of Trackables; such as Geocoins or Travel Bugs.
So how do you find Caches?? Well first you want to set up an account (Free) at Geocaching.com. From there you search for Geocaches near you. From there you can use your phone or other GPS device to navigate your way!
So last week I went on my first hunt for a cache in Downtown Houston and I was surprised to find that there are a lot hidden around here. I found my first cache on Tuesday August 28th with a coworker! We were so excited to find one! It even had a Geocoin in it!! I tracked the coin and it started in Norway and has been all over the place like Great Britain, Sweden and Germany! It was really neat!
After the first one, I was hooked!! I have found 7 so far in the last week. I have even recruited Brent to help! He likes it as long as he finds the cache before me! HAHA I also found a Travel Bug that I am going to take with me to St. Lucia when we head back in November.
I can’t wait to go on the hunt for more caches!! You should try it out! It is free so why not!!
Until next time!
